Slow down and really enjoy the spirit of Southeast Alaska in Petersburg.

Itinerary:

  • Arrival day, Visitor Information Center and become familiar with our community, local trails, harbors, our quaint downtown area.
  • Day One, flightseeing tour of LeConte Bay, icefields,
  • Day Two, sport fishing charter
  • Day Three, car rental and drive into Tongass National Forest, hike trails along main road system
  • Day Four, car rental, further explore Tongass, Three-Lakes trail system, Sandy Beach Park,
  • Day Five, whale watch
  • Day Six, LeConte (Glacier) Bay kayak tour, explore downtown and harbors

Options:

Other day trips out of Petersburg you might consider as additions or substitutions to those listed are:

  • A van tour through Tongass National Forest, including short hikes on boardwalk trails
  • sport fishing from the banks of rivers and creeks, renting a skiff, renting a bicycle
  • black and brown bear watching tours at Anan Creek, on the mainland approx. 60 miles to the southeast
  • exploring El Capitan Cave and the karst (caves/limestone terrain) system on Prince of Wales Island
  • a jet-boat excursion up the mighty Stikine River, North America’s fastest free-flowing navigable river

These require special arrangements for land and marine transportation, though they are well worth the effort.
