Humanity In Progress
Human Resource Services
Humanity In Progress is a Petersburg-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting community members experiencing housing insecurity with the basic needs that help them stay stable and dignified. We believe that housing is the foundation everything else is built on — and that a kind, connected community makes that foundation stronger for everyone.
Our programs are practical and accessible. Our 24/7 outdoor pantry offers grab-and-go bags with ready-to-eat food for anyone who needs it, no questions asked, any time of day or night. On the third Sunday of each month from 11am to 1pm, we distribute kitchen bags with ingredients for at least two full meals, supporting families who need a little help stretching their food budget. When inventory allows, we also provide basic hygiene supplies during these distributions.
We also offer a housing assistance application for Petersburg residents who need help getting housed or staying housed. Applications are reviewed twice a month, and while funding is limited, our focus is clear: keep people in their homes and help those without housing find a stable place to land.
At the heart of everything we do are five core values — Connection, Respect, Education, Prevention, and Empowerment. We're not just responding to need; we're working to educate our community about the importance of housing first and build a Petersburg where everyone has a safe place to call home.
